Lumbini, Nepal is the birth place of Lord Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama.He was born to a Hindu Kshatriya family . He was born(2560+80) 2460 years ago.He is the son of father suddhodana and mother of maya devi .His father is an elected chief of the shakya clan,whose capital was kapilavastu.According to the shakya tradition , when his mother Queen Maya becames pregnant, she left kapilavastu for her father kingdom to give birth. her son is said to have been born on the way , at lumbini, in a garden beneath a sal tree.

Ashoka Pillar,lumbini

The Ashoka Pillar in lumbini is one of the 3rd century stone pillars but under the regin of Emperor Ashoka. The Pillar is located inside the serene Maya Devi Temple complex.The Ashoka Pillar in lumbini was sign of respecte for Gautam buddha after Emperior Ashoka converted to Buddhism.It was rediscovered by the Khadge Shunsher Rana in 19th century, the governor of Palpa. It was found then a ruined stone pillar with only 3 feet of it remaining infact in Rummindei, which was later known as lumbini. It is a most important part of the lumbini .
